Creative Commons Project

Little Paper Men is a very simplified war game I've been working on for a while and now I decided to release it to the public as a creative commons project.

Working on a global project has interested me for a while.

Where do characters come from?

Late last night me and my bro were talking, and he asked me "Where do characters come from." we both basically came up with the same answer quickly "Well, you see when a writer loves himself very much..." Yeah, like I said, it was late, but perhaps there is a little truth to it. A lot of the characters a writer makes comes from himself and his own psyche.

There are also mary-sue characters, but that's obviously going overboard.

Anthropology and other things

I'm reading through a book on anthropology (The study of culture forms in past, present and future). It's a habit I got from homeschooling that if I'm interested in a subject to pick up a book. The book is very interesting. The reason I got interested in the subject was becuse of the Bikaesh Project that I'm working on, which is a world of lizard-folk that I may use for a novel setting one day, or something else.

Another book I'm reading is "The novelist boot camp.". i saw it at the library and the tough get-your-butt-in-gear title sounbded like something I need in actually writing something.

Right now I'm also trying to set down the "posts" (The music moments in a musical) for a musical based on the biblical book of Esther.

Bowling, and something perplexing.

I was at the bowling alley just now, and I noticed they had a bowling arcade game. Why? This just perplexed me. Even if it was perfectly realistic, it just seemed to have no point. Maybe for when the lanes are full?

A book and a movie

This week I read the book "Crispin: The crioss of iron" by Avi. I thought from the title that it would be a high fantasy story, but really it is what apears to be a well researched historical story set in the 1300s in england. The story centers around a boy, only known as "Asta's son" who lives with his mother (Asta) in a small village. When she dies, the boy sees a meeting and is soon declared a wolf's head, whoever wants to can kiill him! He leater learns is accused of stealing form the manor lord!. All he has is a cross of iron and his true name, Crispin which is the key to his past and his future. It is an exiting story, and while most of the characters are rather cardboard, the two primary stories, Crispin and a wanderere who is called "the bear" are interesting characters. I Definitly recomend this book.

Also this week, I saw the movie "Persuit of happyness." A drama based on the true story about a salesman (Will Smith) who is smart and good with people, but when selling a unsellible product falls on the brink of desperation. I used to think that while Will Smith is a tallented actor, he always played the same role, the cocky young guy who never takes things seriously. This is the first movie I've seen him in where that is definitly untrue. It is a brillant movie, with wonderful acting and writing. The one bad thing is the unfortunate use of the "F" word once or twice in the movie.

Wedding. and Happy easter

My brother got married this week. It was a really nice little ceremony in a park. It was fairly informal, which I kind of liked about it. There were markers supplied so people could write messages and silly doodles on the paper tablecloths.

I hope everyone has (had I guess now) a good Easter, and remembers it's more than being about getting sick on chocolate candy (Though candy's not bad :) ) and remembers the one who beat death.

Day #11,862

I was just going to post this when i saw Mystic's comment. Yes, today I celebrate my 26th rotation around the sun.

We had family and friends over. My brother gave me a nice notepad/journal (Which I really needed, since I was using empty spaces in old pocket calenders) and my other brother got me a card game.

I forgot to mention, rather than putting 26 candles, my brother descided to mark my age with the cangles in binary. It was already sliced cheesecake, so the slices represented a digit, so 11010=26.

Writing Block Mantra

Something I was thinking about recently, and a sort of writing exercise.

I think one of my main problems is, I start too many projects at once. I need to focus. Which project is most important for me to write? The play I'm writing? My novel idea? I think another problem is I compare my ideas to the success and what I like in other things, Full Metal Alchemist , Avatar: The last air bender, Ghost in the shell, Charles Dickens and Victor Hugo for example. I am none of those people. I have my own style, preferences and way of approaching the story. I will write a good story in my own time and schedule. I need to keep reminding myself of that. When I enjoy something, I need to say "ok. that's good, but that's not what I'm doing."
